Capitals Winning Streak Snapped in Maui

August 5, 2011 - North American League (NAmL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Wailuku, HI - The Edmonton Capitals winning streak finally came to an end Thursday evening in Maui. Na Koa Ikaika put up 5 runs in the third inning and held on for a 6 - 2 victory over the Caps. Edmonton was looking to make it eight straight but couldn't quite recover from that hiccup early in the contest.

The Capitals jumped out to a great start when Enrique Cruz launched a solo shot as the second batsman of the game and was one of the few Caps players that had a decent night at the plate finishing up 2 for 5. Cruz is now tied for the team lead with 11 home runs this season.

All the damage came in the home half of the third when the Strong Warriors of Maui got to Caps' starter Darryl Arreola with a 2-out rally that started with a ground rule double, three straight walks and then another double from Mitch Einertson that cleared the bases.

Edmonton's record sits at 38 - 26 which puts them 3 games behind the division leading Calgary Vipers who are riding a 4 game winning streak of their own. The Caps marathon series continues in Maui Friday evening (11 pm MST). The next home game for Edmonton is Friday August 12th which happens to be another Fireworks Friday presented by Joe FM against Jose Canseco and the Yuma Scorpions.

The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer, featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Flex packs are available in multiples of eight for $48 less than day-of-game pricing. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
