
Owlz Can't Cool off Raptors

(Orem, UT) - The Orem Owlz (13-25) put the winning run on base in the ninth but dropped the first-half finale, 6-5, to the Ogden Raptors (31-7) on Thursday night at the Home of the Owlz.
The Owlz opened the scoring on Thursday night with a three-run third inning. Brandon White started the inning with a single and then moved to second when Will Wilson was hit by a pitch. Jeremiah Jackson then crushed his league-leading 14th home run of the season, giving the Owlz a 3-0 lead. The Owlz added to the lead in the fourth inning thanks to a Morgan McCullough single.
Owlz starter Matt Leon ran in to trouble in the fifth inning. After allowing a lead off walk, Jon Littell and Andrew Shaps hit back-to-back doubles, cutting the Owlz lead to 4-2. Marco Hernandez made it a one-run game with a single. Ogden produced their second three-run inning of the game in the sixth inning, scoring runs on a wild pitch in and Marco Hernandez and Brandon Wulff singles, giving the Raptors a 6-4 lead.
The Owlz rallied in the ninth inning and put the winning run on base. With one out, Jose Verrier singled for the second time in the game and then scored on a McCullough single. Jeans Flores then doubled, putting runners at second and third before a strikeout ended the game.
Mitchell Tyranski (1-0) earned the win in relief while Zac Kristofak (1-3) was charged with the loss and Reza Aleaziz (4) picked up the save. The Owlz and the Raptors will open the second half in Ogden tomorrow night at 7:00.
