Voyagers Finish First-Half with Doubleheader Split

Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers closed out the first-half Pioneer League schedule with a doubleheader split against playoff-bound Idaho Falls Thursday night at Centene Stadium. With a 7-4 game two victory, Great Falls (15-22) ended a five-game home losing streak and improved to 4-5 against Idaho Falls in the season series. The Chukars (21-16) had already won the first-half North Division title before the series began. Idaho Falls hung on to take game one 6-5 over the Voyagers.

Great Falls banged out 13 hits in game two. The Voyagers took an early lead in the first inning with a bases-loaded, two-out triple lined into deep right by Jonathan Allen. Joshua Rivera made it 4-0 in the first with an RBI single to center. After the Chukars closed the gap to 4-3 with two runs in the top of the fourth, Great Falls grabbed a 6-3 lead in the home half with a two-run double from Lency Delgado. Bryan Connell made it 7-3 with a lead-off, solo home run crushed high and deep to left-center for his third of the season.

On the mound, Rigo Fernandez notched his third win of the season. Fernandez (3-1) went one-and-two-thirds in relief and allowed just a hit with two strikeouts and one walk. Starter Cole Watts took the loss for the Chukars. Watts (0-2) went three and yielded four earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Idaho Falls swatted a pair of two-run homers in the first game that helped fuel the victory. The Chukars took a 2-1 lead in the third on a Clay Dungan RBI triple. The Voyagers answered back in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Lency Delgado and an RBI double from Luis Mieses for a 3-2 lead. A two-run home run in the fourth by Ismaldo Rodriguez gave Idaho Falls the lead right back. Stephan Vidal clubbed a two-run shot in the sixth for a 6-3 cushion. In the bottom of the sixth, Jakob Goldfarb lofted a two-run home run to deep right-center for his first as a professional that trimmed to the lead to one.

Cody Davenport posted the win in relief. Davenport (1-2) went two-and-two-thirds scoreless with one hit allowed. He struck out two and walked one. Sean Thompson pitched a complete game in taking the loss. Thompson (1-5) surrendered six earned runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Brady Cox earned his first save by working the final two innings. Cox gave up two earned runs on two hits with one strikeout. Great Falls continues its seven-day home stand with game three against Idaho Falls Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. It marks the first game of the second-half slate.
