
Owens and Lalande Lead Wranglers To 1-0 Overtime Win

Victoria, BC - The Las Vegas Wranglers (24-18-4, 52 points) defeated the Victoria Salmon Kings (29-15-5, 63 points) 1-0 in overtime at the Save On Foods Memorial Centre on Sunday night. Victoria native Sean Owens scored the game-winning goal with 16-seconds to go in overtime to lift Las Vegas to a 1-0 win. Wranglers' goalie Kevin Lalande (9-8-2) made 20 saves in the first period and finished with 38 for his third shutout of the season. The Wranglers extended their winning streak to six games with the victory. Victoria goalie Julien Ellis suffered the loss with 31 saves. With the win, the Wranglers sweep the four-game series in Victoria. Las Vegas will return home to host Phoenix at 7:30 PM on Tuesday at the Orleans Arena.
In the first period, Las Vegas was held without a shot for the first 12 minutes of the game. The Salmon Kings outshot the Wranglers 14-0 to start the game and finished the period with a 20-3 advantage. Wranglers' goalie Kevin Lalande stopped all 20 first-period shots, keeping the game scoreless. The three shots in one period was a season-low for the Wranglers.
Las Vegas countered to outshoot Victoria 18-5 in the second period. Victoria goalie Julien Ellis stopped all 18 second-period shots he faced, while Lalande stopped all five Salmon Kings shots, keeping the game scoreless through two periods of play.
After a scoreless the third period to two teams skated to overtime. Las Vegas forward Justin Taylor snapped a backhand shot to the Victoria net. Despite a save by Ellis, Sean Owens poked in the rebound for his third goal of the season and the Wranglers 1-0 win.
The Wranglers return home on Tuesday, February 10th to host Phoenix at 7:30 PM. Las Vegas will then travel to Ontario for a 7:00 PM game on Wednesday, February 11th and second game at 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 14th against the Reign. Las Vegas will return home to host Utah at 2:05 PM on Sunday, February 15th. The Wranglers will play their last home game of February on Monday, February 16th at 2:05 PM against Phoenix.
