Despite valiant effort early, Sea Wolves fall 5-2 to Cyclones

BILOXI, MS - The Cincinnati Cyclones pulled out 5-2 victory in the rubber match of a three-in-three series against the Mississippi Sea Wolves at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

Mathieu Melanson potted his 16th goal of the season when Chris Brooks fed him a pass up the left wing and Melanson blasted a shot over Cincinnati goaltender Ryan Nie's blocker at 4:32 of the first period. Jason Tejchma found a loose puck in the low slot and fired it into the top corner of the net for his 13th goal of the season and a 2-0 Sea Wolves lead at 17:07 of the first.

Cincinnati clawed back in the second period with power-play goals from Mark Van Guilder at the 9:00 mark and Dustin Sproat at the 15:51 as the Sea Wolves found themselves in penalty trouble in the second frame. Tom Sawatske scored on a wrist shot from a sharp angle that beat Sea Wolves goaltender Ryan Munce low along the ice at 18:42 of the second to give the Cyclones a 3-2 lead.

Just 29 seconds into the third period, Cincinnati's Matt Syroczynski capitalized on a turnover in the Sea Wolves defensive zone to pot his 12th goal of the season for a 4-2 Cyclones lead. Ben Gordon's 11th goal of the season, an empty-netter at 19:07, sealed the victory for Cincinnati.

Ryan Munce made 22 saves, earning a loss, while the Sea Wolves power play was 0-for-4.

The next broadcast of Sea Wolves hockey is Tuesday when the Sea Wolves host the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 CT, and will be heard on the B2 Networks and at www.msseawolves.com. The pre-game show presented by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will begin 15 minutes before the opening faceoff!
