
Jackals Win 4th Straight

Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals closed up a busy three game weekend with their fourth straight win tonight at First Arena with a 4-3 decision over the Trenton Devils. The Jackals could potentially own first place in the North Division depending on the Mississippi Cincinnati final this evening.
The Jackals opened the scoring at the 12:45 mark of the first period on Benoit Doucets 14th of the season. Chris Korchinski and Moises Gutierrez set up the open Doucet who skated from the corner into the center slot to beat Charlie Effinger.
The Jackals 1-0 lead held until the 6:20 mark of the second period when Trenton's' Jeremy Akeson fired home his 9th of the season on an unassisted break away. The Jackals struck right back at the 7:10 mark with Pierre-Luc Fauberts 16th of the season to retake the lead at 2-1. Paul McIlveen and Brandon Roach got the assists on the play. The Devils didn't wait long to tie the game at 2-2, 65 seconds later Jeff Prough put home a Matt Radoslovich feed. The Jackals ended the period with Chris Korchinski's 18th goal of the year at the 13:35 mark. On the power play Nathan Lutz set up Paul McIlveen who fired a shot on Effinger, the rebound squirted free Korchinksi who pounded home the third of the evening. The Jackals dominated the shot category, 30-21 through two periods.
The third period opened with Mike Sgroi's second goal as a Jackal. Steve Yetman fed Sgroi a cross ice feed that was blasted home for the 4-2 lead. The Devils were granted two power plays in the final two minutes of play. They capitalized on the second. With a 1:29 to play, Jeremy Akeson brought the game to 4-3, but Jackals goaltender Michael Teslak would hang on for the 27th win of the year and the third of the three game weekend.
With the win the Jackals improve to 27-19-1-3 while the Devils fall to 23-17-2-2.
Next Up: The Jackals return to First Arena next Friday at 7:35 p.m. for a rematch with the Trenton Devils. The Jackals close out next weekend with a 7:35 p.m. Saturday night tilt with the Reading Royals.
