Idaho Steelheads News Release
BAKERSFIELD, CA- The Idaho Steelheads (25-15-3) saw their four-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Bakersfield Condors (16-26-6).
Tonight's first period was similar to Wednesday's, as the Condors scored the only goals in the frame. Matt Pope opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal, as he took a drop pass from Chad Painchaud in the Steelheads end. The goal was a result of an offensive-zone turnover by the Steelheads. The second Condors goal saw Bruce Graham find a Tylor Michel pass behind Idaho netminder Reggie Beauchemin and bang it home.
The Steelheads entered the second period trailing 2-0. At 3:38 of the second, the game paused for a few moments after Dan Welch dropped Bakersfield's Jay Langager to the ice legally, and was blindsided by the Condors' Donny Grover. After the play, Marty Raymond was not happy with the call from referee Geno Binda, and was eventually asked to leave the Condors' bench for the duration of the game for his actions.
When the play resumed, Matt McKnight scored his sixth of the season on the ensuing power play, and took his consecutive game point streak to five games with the power play goal at 5:32 of the second. Bryan McGregor and Matt Stephenson added the assists.
With the Steelheads down 3-1, Mark Bomersback scored a shorthanded goal, unassisted, at 0:42 of the third. Less than two minutes later, Marty Flichel tied the game for the Steelheads with assists going to Matt Stephenson and Garett Bembridge.
Tonight's eventual game-winner made the score 4-3, but the tally was not in the Steelheads' favor. Dave Bonk made it 4-3 Bakersfield at 13:05 with assists going to Mike Wirll and Tom Morrow.
Rejean Beauchemin stopped 25 of 29 Bakersfield shots for the loss; his record now stands at 10-7-2. Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 36 of 39 Idaho shots for the win. His record improves to 5-9-1.
