
Faubert Nets Shoot Out Game Winner

Wheeling, WV- The Elmira Jackals picked up their 26th win of the season tonight when Pierre-Luc Faubert scored in the fourth round of the shoot out at WesBanco Arena in front of a crowd of 3,747. The Jackals upset the Nailers for the second straight time and now look ahead to tomorrows 4:05 p.m. match up with Trenton at First Arena.
The Nailers broke the scoreless tie at the 13:15 mark of the first period on an Elgin Reid power play blast from the blue line. Jordan Morrison and Mitch Ganzak got the assists on the play. Each club had solid chances in the first frame with the shots at 10-9 in favor of the Nailers.
The Jackals came out swinging to start the second period with a Chris Korchinski goal just 2:18 in. Paul McIlveen and Benoit Doucet got the assists on the play. The Jackals continued the pressure and took a 2-1 lead at the 11:41 mark. In his first game as a Jackal, forward Mike Sgroi slammed home a Pierre-Luc Faubert rebound, Brian Ihnacak also assisted. The Jackals held the 2-1 lead into the third period of play out shooting the Nailers 21-16.
The Jackals 2-1 lead lasted until the 8:35 mark of the third when Mitch Ganzak netted his fifth of the season. The 2-2 score would hold all the way through regulation and overtime. The Jackals fought off two Wheeling power plays in the extra frame.
In the shoot out the Jackals had superb goaltending from Mitch O'Keefe who denied four of the five Wheeling shooters. Benoit Doucet kept the shoot out alive in round number three and Pierre-Luc Faubert got the game winner in round four to boost the Jackals to the 3-2 victory.
With the win the Jackals improve to 26-19-1-3 while the Nailers fall to 25-15-2-4.
Next Up: The Jackals return to First Arena tomorrow afternoon at 4:05 p.m. for a divisional match up with the Trenton Devils. Stick around after the game and skate with the Jackals!
