Swift Current Broncos News Release
Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos are proud to announce that defenceman Owen Pickering, forward Josh Filmon and goaltender Reid Dyck have been named to the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, which will be held Wednesday, March 23 in Kitchener, Ont.
Forty players from across the Canadian Hockey League were named to the event, and will be divided into Team Red and Team White with the rosters and coaching staffs announced in the coming weeks.
Pickering, from St. Adolphe, Man., has played in 45 games for the Broncos this season scoring seven times and adding 17 assists. A ninth-round WHL Prospects Draft pick in 2019, Pickering has vaulted up the NHL Central Scouting rankings leading up to the 2022 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal, going from a C-ranked skater in the preliminary rankings, to a B-ranked skater in the October rankings, before being ranked 21st overall amongst North American Skaters in the mid-term rankings.
The 6'5'', 179-pound Pickering has been relied on by the Broncos to play heavy minutes in all situations this season and has responded with his offensive totals.
Filmon, from Winnipeg, Man., has exploded offensively in his second season in the WHL. After two goals in 17 games as a rookie during the shortened 2020-21 season, Filmon has scored 19 goals and added 18 assists in 46 games this season.
Drafted 67th overall in the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft, the 6'2'' Filmon has found a home on the Broncos top line and enters play Tuesday with a 16.8 per cent shooting percentage, second on the team behind only Cole Nagy. He was ranked 51st amongst North American Skaters in the mid-term rankings.
Dyck, from Winkler, Man., is coming off a career performance in his last start when he turned aside 46 of 49 Brandon Wheat Kings shots in the Broncos 4-3 overtime win on Friday. Coming into the game in relief action the next night, Dyck stopped 18 of 19 Winnipeg ICE shots in the third period.
The 6'4'' goaltender has a 3-9-1-0 record this season with a 4.43 goals against average and an .885 save percentage. He has faced 40+ shots in seven of his 14 starts this season. Dyck was ranked 26th amongst North American goaltenders in the mid-term rankings.
The Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game was last held in Hamilton, Ont. in January of 2022 where Team White defeated Team Red 5-3. In all, 37 players who competed in the game went on to be drafted in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
The Broncos are one of three WHL teams, along with Seattle and Kamloops, to have three players named to the event.
