Ovalle Blasts Walk-Off Home Run to End Losing Streak

May 27, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The Snappers won in dramatic fashion Saturday night as Edward Ovalle hit a walk-off two run homer off Burlington's Kraig Schambough to lift the Snappers to a 4-3 victory and snap their season high six game losing streak. Down 3-2 going into the ninth, Andrew Thompson singeld advanced to second on an error by Bees' second baseman Valentino Arce. Thompson came around to score on Erik Lis's 20th double of the season, his third hit of the game. Ovalle then took the second pitch from Schambough deep over the left-center fence for the game winner.

Both startering pitchers threw seven strong innings, though neither factored in the decision. Snappers starter Kyle Waldrop allowed three hits and gave up one earned, striking out four and walking two. Bee's starter David Henninger was equally dominate as he allowed three hits, one earned run with three punch-outs and two walks. He retired twelve straight Snappers at one point in the game.

The Bees' drew first blood in the top of the third when Jose Duarte scored on a wild pitch by Waldrop. Beloit tied it up in the 7th when Erik Lis scored on a single by Dwayne White, his eighth RBI of the year. Burlington jumped back ahead with two in the 8th off Snappers' reliever David Shinskie. Mario Lisson, who pinch-ran for Brady Everett, scored on a single by Jeff Howell. Carlos Arroyo singled in J.P. Lowen to give the Bees their final run. Frank Mata pitched a scoreless ninth to get the win, his second on the year.

The Snappers are now 23-24 on the season, the Bees are 23-23.

Upcoming Schedule: The Snappers and Bees play the final game of their four game series Sunday, May 28 at Pohlman Field. First pitch is set for 2:00 pm.
