Burlington Bees News Release

Beloit, WI (May 26, 2006) - The Burlington Bees (23-22) beat the Beloit Snappers (22-24) 6-1 at Pohlman Field tonight for the team's fifth win in six games on this road trip through the state of Wisconsin. The Bees have won eleven of their last twelve games to match the high water mark for the year at a game over .500.

Tonight's game matched up Bees right-hander Carlos Rosa against Snappers right-hander Oswaldo Sosa for the second time this season. The two faced each other on April 15th at Community Field in a game the Bees won 8-0. There would be no repeat of the shutout as the Snappers scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Edward Ovalle led off with a single, went to second on a passed ball, to third on a groundout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Caleb Moore. That would be the only run allowed by Rosa (4-3) through six innings as he became the third Bees pitcher in four days to earn his third consecutive winning decision. After a leadoff single by Moore in the seventh, Chris Hayes replaced Rosa on the mound and got a double play ball and a popout to end the inning. Hayes would finish the final three innings for his third save of the season and allow just one baserunner when he hit Paul Kelly in the foot with a pitch to start the bottom of the ninth. In his last nine appearances, Hayes has allowed just on unearned run in 13 innings of work.

The Bees got on the board against Sosa (3-4) in the top of the third. Jeremy Jirschele led off the inning with a single, one of three hits in the game to tie a season and career high, and two walks sandwiched around two flyouts had the bases loaded with two away. Carlos Arroyo cashed in for the Bees with a base hit up the middle to drive in two and Jeff Howell chased home Brady Everett with hustle double to left-center to increase the lead to 3-1. Sosa finished five innings and allowed six hits and three walks while striking out five.

Adam Hawes took over in the sixth and worked two scoreless innings before the Bees added on in the eighth. Jose Duarte singled and stole second. After a strikeout, Hawes walked Jirschele and Chris McConnell to load the bases again. Hawes turned the ball over to Danny Vais who was greeted by Mario Lisson with a base hit to left that drove in two. Lisson leads the team with 30 RBI on the year. Vais got out of the eighth without allowing anymore runs, but gave up one more in the ninth. With one out, Howell singled and scored on a triple down the third base line by Duarte. Duarte has hit in five straight games and has driven in a run in six in a row. Lisson holds the team-high with an RBI in eight straight games, April 10-19 this year.

The Bees haven't been over the .500 mark since April 19th when the team was 7-6. The Bees haven't been over the .500 mark this late in the first half since 2002 when the team finished a series sweep at Clinton on May 31st to improve to 27-26.

The Bees and Snappers continue this series tomorrow night at 6:30 at Pohlman Field. RH David Henninger (1-2, 4.63) will start for the Bees against RH Kyle Waldrop (3-2, 4.13) of Beloit. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show staring at 6:10.
