Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Swing of the Quad Cities continued their recent trend of impressive starting pitching, as righthander Kyle Sadlowski led the home team to a 4-0 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels Saturday night at John O'Donnell Stadium. The 21-year-old out of Kutztown University allowed only two hits and one walk in eight sterling innings, winning a game that took only one hour and 56 minutes to complete - the shortest nine-inning game played by the Swing this season.

Quad Cities (20-26) has won two of the first three games in the series, and will look for a series win on Sunday behind Cory Meacham in a special Memorial Day Weekend 7:00 p.m. starting time. Cedar Rapids (21-28) has dropped six of their last seven games of the season.

Sadlowski (3-1) flashed a potential no-hitter with a brilliant start to the game, retiring the first 14 batters he faced in order. With two outs in the top of the fifth, it was slugger Mark Trumbo breaking up the perfect game with a groundball that snuck through the hole at shortstop for a single. The eight-inning performance was the longest outing of Sadlowski's career, and only the second eight-inning start by a Swing pitcher this season. The first was turned in Jaime Garcia in game one of the series on Thursday.

The Cardinals' 34th round pick in the 2005 draft sailed to the win, rebounding from a rough outing the last time he faced the Kernels - one that saw him yield five runs in just 1.1 innings on May 16 at Veterans Memorial Stadium

All of the runs in the game crossed the plate in a big fifth inning. Simon Williams got it started with pure hustle, motoring down the first base line to beat out a groundball to shortstop for an infield single. Chad Gabriel then stepped up and lined his first home run of the year over the left field wall, staking the Swing out to a 2-0 lead.

Two outs later, Jose Martinez started another rally with a line drive single to right. Bryan Anderson's base hit put men on the corners, setting the stage for a two-run double off the wall in left field by Randy Roth. That put Quad Cities in front, 4-0.

The two-through-four hitters in the Swing lineup were especially tough, as Martinez, Anderson, and Roth combined to go 8-for-12 with two runs scored and two RBI.

The Swing starters have been on the money this series as well. Garcia on Thursday, Mark McCormick on Friday, and Sadlowski on Saturday have combined to hurl 21 innings in the series, striking out 19 while allowing only two runs on nine hits.

Moose Mosebach (3-3) took the loss for Cedar Rapids, yielding four runs on nine hits in six innings. He struck out two without issuing a walk, allowing the Gabriel home run in a four-run fifth inning.

UP NEXT: The Swing of the Quad Cities will wrap up their series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Sunday night, as RHP Cory Meacham (3-2, 3.71) will take the mound against RHP Tommy Mendoza (1-5, 5.34). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with coverage on Progressive Talk AM-1270 beginning at 6:45 p.m.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS: A busy homestand will conclude with a Mix 96 Family Fun Day on Sunday, also Scott County YMCA's day at the ballpark with post-game fireworks sponsored in part by KWQC, KUUL, and WOC.
