South Bend - The nickname given to George Arthur Hendricks III is Trey. He received the nickname for being the third member of his family named George Arthur. Saturday night at the Cove, the number three was prominent for Hendricks again, as the Texas native's three run double in the eighth inning helped the Hawks secure their 15th come from behind win of the season in a 4-2 win over the Dayton Dragons (25-24).
With one retired in the second, Orlando Mercado doubled to left field. One out later, Steve Mena walked to place runners at first and second. Manny Ferrer followed and reached on a, fielding error by second baseman Mike DeJesus scoring Mercado from second to put the Hawks on top 1-0.
The Dragons captured the lead in the sixth. With one away, Habelito Hernandez homered to left field for his second of the series and season tying the game at one. After Eric Eymann's strike out, Craig Tatum reached on an infield single. Tatum then stole second and scored on a base hit by Mike DeJesus giving Dayton a 2-1 edge.
In the eighth, the Hawks' Manny Ferrer lead off with a base hit, but the Hawks were down to their final four outs when Justin Upton was hit by pitch and Will Crouch walked to load the bases. Trey Hendricks, came to the plate, hitting .400 with bases loaded, delivered a clutch three-run double to put the Hawks on top 4-2.
Hawks starter Ryan Doherty (4-0) gets the win and Blake Hendley (1-1) suffers the loss.
The Silver Hawks (22-25) and Dragons continue their four game set Sunday night with first pitch at 1:30 PM and gates opening at 12:30 PM. Sunday is Faith's Day. Fans who bring their church bulletins will receive $2 off admission. Sunday is also "Canine's at the Cove." The first 1,000 dogs will receive a water dish from Pet Palace.
