Lansing Lugnuts News Release
Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Lansing Lugnuts plated at least one run in each of the final five innings on Saturday afternoon to take a 10-4 win over the Fort Wayne Wizards at Memorial Stadium. Lansing pounded out 19 hits in the contest, the most in any single game by the Lugnuts this season. It is the Lugnuts fourth consecutive win, all of which have come against the Wizards.
Trailing 3-1 in the sixth, Jacob Butler blasted a two run homer to left field for Lansing to tie the game at 3-3. It was his sixth longball of the season.
Butler struck again in the following frame when he roped a bases loaded two run single to right-center field to put the Lugnuts up 5-3. He scored later in the inning when Josh Bell's single to center field pushed the lead to 6-3.
Lansing's hit parade continued in the eighth when Sean Shoffit and Luke Hetherington smacked back-to-back doubles to make the score 7-3.
After Fort Wayne added a run in the bottom of the eighth, Lansing put three more runs on the board in the ninth. Anthony Hatch singled and moved to second base when Jacob Butler reached on an error by the shortstop Abraham Aguilar. Josh Bell followed with a single that loaded the bases for Lansing. Jesus Gonzalez then stepped up and hit a ground ball to the third baseman Steiner, who made a wild throw home that allowed two runs to score to make the lead 9-4. Hetherington then singled to plate Bell from third to put the final run on the board for Lansing.
Several Lugnuts had multiple hits in the game, including Cory Patton who went 4-for-6 in the contest. He is 15-for-27 against Fort Wayne this season.
Lansing (29-18) will look to sweep Fort Wayne (22-24) on Sunday afternoon. Russ Savickas (1-0, 2.74) will hurl for the Lugnuts, while Stevie Delabar (3-2, 3.27) will take the ball for the Wizards. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
