Outlaws Win in Extras
June 3, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
St. George RoadRunners News Release
CHICO, CA - Nine innings were not enough for the St. George RoadRunners and the Chico Outlaws to determine a winner on a get-away Thursday night at Nettleton Stadium. In the bottom of the tenth, Maikal Jova was hit by a Charlie Weatherby inside pitch with the bases loaded giving the Outlaws a 2-1 series-clinching win.
Chico improves to a Northern Division-best 9-3 while St. George drops to 3-7.
Both starting pitchers delivered quality efforts - Reed Dickert allowed one run on six hits while striking out four in seven strong frames. Chico's Javier Ortiz tossed one more inning and had one more strikeout, but matched Dickert with one run on six hits.
The Outlaws scored in the third after three straight singles loaded the bases with one out. J.J. Sherrill cashed in Ortiz with a sacrifice fly to center for a 1-0 lead.
St. George's equalizer came in the fifth. David Ramirez led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a two-out single by Vic Buttler.
Both teams had chances to push ahead in latter parts of regulation, but it wasn't until the Chico 10th that the game was decided.
Weatherby (0-1) receives the loss after Dickert's start and two scoreless relief frames from Mitch Arnold. Justin Segal (1-0) earns the win keeping the RoadRunners scoreless in the top of the tenth.
St. George returns home Friday night to take on the Tucson Toros. First pitch at Bruce Hurst Field is scheduled for 7:05pm on another Findlay Fireworks Friday Night. LHP Jon Dutton is expected to start for St. George in the opener.
