Outlaws Win In Ten; Take Series from Roadrunners
June 3, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL) News Release
(Chico, CA June 3rd, 2010) The Outlaws took game three of the series with the Roadrunners, winning in the bottom of the 10th inning after Mikael Jova was hit with a pitch by Roadrunners pitcher Charlie Weatherby, driving in the winning run for a 2-1 final score.
Pitcher Reed Dickert started strong for the Roadrunners and struck out the side of the Outlaws in the first inning.
The score remained 0-0 as the teams moved into the third inning until J.J. Sherrill hit a sacrifice fly into the outfield to bring home Blake Gailen, making the score to 1-0.
The fifth inning started with Roadrunners David Ramirez hitting a double that helped pave the way for Vic Butler, who hit a blazing ball past Outlaws second baseman Bobby Hill, bringing home Ramirez to tie the game 1-1.
The game moved on scoreless with both teams able to put players, but unable to bring them home. The game reached the tenth inning, where Outlaws pitcher Justin Segal was able to hold St. George scoreless and give the Outlaws a chance to capitalize in the bottom of the inning.
Charlie Weatherby (0-1) stepped on the mound to pitch for the Roadrunners. Gailen started the inning for the Outlaws with a stand-up double, which brought up Hill, who was walked to first. Sherrill hit a ground ball that resulted in a fielder's choice after Gailen was called safe at third on a throw to the bag.
Mikael Jova stepped up to bat with the bases loaded, but Weatherby allowed a wild pitch to get away from him, striking Jova on the right side and ending the game 2-1 with Gailen walking home with the winning run.
Justin Segal got the win relief for the Outlaws, who improve to 9-3 on the year, while St George falls to 3-7.
The Outlaws start a three game set in Tijuana starting Friday night through Sunday. They return to Nettleton Stadium on Tuesday June 8th at 6:35 pm against Tucson.
Tomorrow's game in Tijuana is set for 7:00 pm. You can watch the game live on www.justin.tv.com/chicooutlawsbaseball and hear the game on www.chicooutlaws.com.
