Victoria Seals News Release
Aiming to bounce back after a blowout loss in the series opener, the Victoria Seals squared off against the Tucson Toros for the second straight night at Hi Corbett Field. With the home side turning to former World Series Champion Albie Lopez (1-0) for the start, the Seals turned to left-hander Jino Gonzalez (0-1) for the start in game two.
The home side was first on the board when Ryan Priddy's league-leading third triple of the season set up and RBI base hit off the bat of Luis Apodaca for a 1-0 Tucson lead. The Toros would then double their advantage in the bottom of the third as three straight singles from Wally Backman Jr., Christobal Santana and Priddy made it a 2-0 ballgame.
Tucson then converted a two-out walk to Lino Garcia into a 3-0 advantage when Victor Ferrente laced a double into left field, extending his hit streak to 11 games. Victoria finally put together a response in the top half of the sixth, when Sean Smith was hit by a pitch to lead things off before an RBI groundout courtesy of Colin Moro broke the shutout bid for Lopez.
Answering right back in the bottom of the sixth, the Toros would end the night for Gonzalez and put the game to bed with the help of a two-run blast from Ferrente, running the score to 5-1 Tucson. Unable to muster a comeback attempt in the final three frames, the Seals drop their third straight decision and lose on back-to-back nights at Hi Corbett Field.
Jino Gonzalez is tagged with his second loss of the season for the Seals, while Albie Lopez's strong performance on the mound improves his record to 1-1. Victor Ferrente paced the offense for the home side, while Terrence McClain when 3-for-4 in a losing effort for the Seals.
