Chico Outlaws News Release

Calgary's Reggie Rivard made quick work of the Chico Outlaws batting order on Wednesday night at Nettleton Stadium, holding them to five hits and striking out nine along the way as the Vipers blank Chico 6-0.

Rivard (5-1) threw 127 pitches, 78 of them for strikes, in cruising to his fifth win of the year. Using his cut fastball, he kept Outlaws hitters off-balance all night in throwing the complete game shutout.

Outlaws' starter Mark McLemore had no trouble himself through the game's first three innings, retiring all nine hitters and striking out three Vipers.

Trouble cropped up in the Vipers fourth inning. After a one-out single by shortstop Jorge Meija and a throwing error by Chico catcher Robby Alcombrack on an attempted stolen base that put Meija on third, Brent Metheny doubled to bring home Meija for the game's first run. One batter later, Kevin Price singled to plate Metheny, giving Calgary a 2-0 lead.

The Vipers got a solo run in the fifth on a homerun to left by catcher Luis Taveras, his second blast in as many nights, making it a 3-0 game.

Two more runs came across home in the sixth for Calgary, the first on a wild pitch by McLemore that allowed Metheny to score and the second one on a sac fly by Price to cash in Julio Ramirez who had earlier singled.

Calgary scored their final run of the night in the seventh on an RBI double by Meija, giving the Snakes the six-run cushion.

David Dinelli gave up one earned run in relief of McLemore in an inning and a third of work. Yosandy Ibanez and Josh Dew pitched scoreless innings of relief for the Outlaws, who dropped to 21-18 in the second half and 4.5 games behind the Vipers in the GBL North.

Game three of this series is Thursday as rightie Garret Holleran (9-2, 3.69 ERA) takes the ball for Chico in the regular season finale looking for his tenth win of the year opposite the Snakes' Dusty Gober (9-1, 4.78 ERA).
