September 1, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release
The Tucson Toros extended their winning streak to 12 straight games with a 14-2 blowout victory over the St. George Road Runners Wednesday night.
Tucson wasted no time getting ahead as LF Lino Garcia blasted a 3-run bomb that struck the scoreboard to headline what was a 4-run 1st inning.
The homer was Garcia's team leading 8th long ball of the year.
The Toros starter Albie Lopez sat down the first 6 batters he faced until the top of the 3rd when Roadrunners broke onto the scoreboard as RF Chris Brown smacked a leadoff solo homer over the leftfield scoreboard for his 2nd on the year.
Lopez kept the Roadrunners at bay thereafter however, only allowing 2 total runs on 5 hits in 6 innings of work while also tying his season high in strikeouts with 7 K's on the night.
The offensive star for the Toros was 3B Wally Backman Jr. who went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI that included his 4th home run of the year in the 5th inning that cleared the batter's eye in deep centerfield that gave the Toros a 7-2 lead at the time.
Tucson added 4 more runs to their lead including a 3-run 6th inning fueled by 4 consecutive hits to make it 11-2.
The 14-2 final gave Lopez his 7th win of the season, tying him for the team high in wins along with fellow starter James Garcia.
Tomorrow night will be the last of the 3 game series against the Roadrunners and will be last call for Thirsty Thursday as it's the last one of the season at Hi Corbett before wrapping up the season against Yuma on Friday and Saturday.
Gametime is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
