Orange County Flyers News Release

KAHULUI, Hawai'i. (August 31, 2010) - Making their first trip to Hawai'I, the Orange County Flyers fell in extra innings to Na Koa Ikaika Maui in a game that ended at almost 2am Pacific Time at Iron Maehara Stadium. Former Flyer Travon Jackson's game-ending single up the middle cashed Michael Higa from second base for Maui's 4-3 win in 12 innings over OC in a playoff preview series that lasted longer than four hours.

The Orange County Flyers (49-31, 27-8 second half) begin a best-of-five playoff series against Na Koa Ikaika Maui (52-24, 26-7) in Maui on Tuesday, September 7, and will host Game 3 of the series on Friday, September 10 at 7:05pm at Goodwin Field. OC will host Games 4 and 5, if necessary, on September 11 and 12.

Orange County overcame a three-run deficit to tie the game after eight innings. Tyler Keeble singled in the sixth inning, and Jimmy Rohan followed with his league-leading 120th hit, a double to score Keeble from first and put OC on the board. Maui starter Harold Williams walked the bases full before walking Derek Perren to bring in another Flyers run, cutting Maui's lead to 3-2.

In the top of the eighth, Julian Benavidez drew a lead-off walk and stole second before David Harris doubled to cash Benavidez, tying the game, 3-3.

Mark Prior pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Orange County, striking out two batters. Andre Simpson threw two scoreless innings of relief in the ninth and 10th before turning the ball over to Kevin Altman, who got out of the 11th before allowing the game-winning hit by Jackson in the 12th. Zac Cline also threw two scoreless innings of relief for the Flyers.

Jake Renshaw pitched well in five innings of work but made two errors that led to three unearned runs for Maui. In the second inning, with runners on first and second, Travon Jackson bunted down the first base line, but an errant throw by Renshaw allowed both runners to score, putting Maui ahead, 2-0. A low pickoff attempt that got away put another Maui base-runner in scoring position and catcher Phil Avlas drove in another Maui run in the third inning.

The Flyers continue this seven-game series to wrap up the regular season in Maui on Wednesday, with first pitch at 9:35pm Pacific Time, 6:35pm Hawaiian Time. All games from Maui can be heard live through Live365 with Josh Feldman through www.OrangeCountyFlyers.com.
