Tucson Toros News Release

Tucson, AZ -The Tucson Toros came away with the 11-10 walkoff victory in the 10th inning against the St. George Roadrunners Tuesday night in a game that saw three separate ties within regulation innings. The walkoff was the Toros 8th of the season and 2nd in as many games and also extended the team's winning streak to 11 straight games to tie them for the second longest streak in the GBL this season.

The Toros came out hot with a 4-run 1st inning that began with an RBI triple by RF Francisco Plasencia. Also contributing to the inning was LF Lino Garcia who hit an RBI single up the middle, later followed by a 2-RBI single by C Luis Apodaca that put Tucson up 4-1.

St. George went down 6-1 in the 5th, but rallied for 7 runs in the next two innings to leapfrog the Toros for the 8-6 lead. The Roadrunners rally was fueled by a 3-run 5th, and a 4-run 6th inning.

Tucson immediately tied the game back up in the 7th inning. 1B Cristobal Santana drove in a run with a single and Garcia later scored on a throwing error by the second baseman to make it 8-8. The Roadrunners got the lead right back in the top of the 8th inning with back-to-back RBI singles by infielders Chris Nastasi and Matt Huggins to push the Roadrunners ahead for a 10-8 lead.

Not to be outdone, the Toros answered in the bottom half of the 8th with RBI doubles by pinch-hitter Darren Blakely and Plasencia that tied it up once again at 10 all.

The game remained tied heading into extra innings until the bottom of the 10th inning when CF Josh Womack leadoff with a double inches within the rightfield foul line. A couple of walks followed to load the bases before Santana hit a high fly ball to centerfield that brought in Womack for the sacrifice-fly game-winning RBI in the 11-10 victory.

Toros will play the second of the 3-game series against the Roadrunners tomorrow night on We Care Wednesday. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. with the game following at 7:00 p.m.
