Tucson Toros News Release

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros and their fans have surpassed the team's goal of recycling 6,000 pounds of materials at Hi Corbett Field this season. The Toros partnered with the City of Tucson's Do More Blue program and Outback Steakhouse to place approximately 30 Do More Blue barrels at the ballpark this year.

The bright blue barrels, which are familiar sight throughout Tucson, invited fans to recycle everything from water bottles and beverage cups to pizza boxes instead of discarding them to help prevent over 3 tons of waste from adding to Tucson's landfills. Fans embraced the program so enthusiastically that additional bins and collection barrels were added mid-season to help accommodate all of the recycling.

"We were thrilled with the success of the Do More Blue recycling program this season," said Toros General Manager Sean Smock. "Not only has it spread the word about recycling in Tucson but it also has helped make Hi Corbett Field an even greener and more sustainable thanks to our fantastic fans. We hope to expand the program and recycle even more next season."

Outback Steakhouse provided each fan in attendance at Tuesday's game with a coupon for a free Bloomin' Onion to help celebrate the successful campaign.

The Do More Blue program was introduced by the City of Tucson Environmental Services in 2003. The program has resulted in Tucson residents recycling 21% of their would-be trash thus far, with the stated goal of increasing that percentage to 37%. Despite the goal being surpassed, fans are still encouraged to continue to recycle as much as possible during the Toros' final homestand. The Toros will host the St. George Road Runners Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m., with the homestand lasting through Saturday, September 4th.
