Ouellet, Foster added to All-Star roster
January 27, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA ... American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced today that Portland Pirates goaltender Maxime Ouellet and Chicago Wolves defenseman Kurtis Foster have been added to the Canadian AHL All-Star roster for next week's 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic.
Foster replaces injured Chicago teammate Garnet Exelby, while Ouellet replaces Hamilton Bulldogs goaltender Mathieu Garon, who is on recall to the Montreal Canadiens.
Ouellet, 21, owns a record of 16-6-2 in 25 games this season. He ranks second in the league with a 2.00 goals against average, and leads the AHL with a .942 save percentage and seven shutouts, a total that is just two off the all-time league record for a single season.
A first-round draft choice of Philadelphia (22nd overall) in 1999, Ouellet has been stifling opponents in the four weeks since the initial All-Star rosters were selected by a coaches committee. He has posted six shutouts in his last 10 starts since Dec. 30, along with a record of 8-1-1, a 1.45 GAA and a .958 save percentage.
Foster, 21, was a second-round draft choice by Calgary in 2000. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound defenseman helped the Wolves to the 2002 Calder Cup championship, and currently leads Chicago blueliners in scoring with eight goals and 26 points in 42 games this season.
The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine, home of the AHL's Portland Pirates. The event gets underway on Sunday, February 2, with the 2003 Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 8:00 p.m. ET, and concludes with the annual All-Star Game at 7:00 p.m. ET on Monday, February 3. The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will be televised to 60 million households on 15 regional television partners in the United States and on Rogers Sportsnet nationally in Canada.
