Evansville, IN– Steve Martin hit a tie-breaking three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning sending the Evansville Otters to an 8-7 win over the Richmond Roosters. With the win, Evansville maintains their ½ game lead over Washington in the East division.

The Otters got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning, going up 2-0. The Roosters scored two unearned runs in the bottom half to tie the game. Evansville would put three more on the board in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 5-2 lead.

The Otters were maintaining the lead comfortably until the seventh, when the Roosters exploded for three to tie things at 5-5. Richmond brought in the normally reliable Chad Sosebee in the bottom of the seventh. Evansville loaded the bases off of him with no outs, before Sosebee struck out O. J. Garza and got Carlos Brackley to ground into a double play.

Sosebee would not be so lucky in the eighth. After allowing a leadoff single to Sean Flynn, a wild pitch moved Flynn to second. Sosebee then balked Flynn to third before walking Frank Scott. With runners on the corners, Richmond brought in Matt Schweitzer to turn Steve Martin around to the right side. The roll of the dice failed, as Martin clubbed his second homer of the season over the left field fence.

Bryan Simmering picked up the win for the Otters. Amad Stephens notched his 11th save. Evansville send Jeremy Lewis tomorrow against Richmond's Jake Gann.
