Rockford, ILâ A similar script played out for the second straight night at Marinelli Field.
The Gateway Grizzlies exploded for a seven-run eighth inning and went on to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 10-6, in front of 3,151.
The Grizzlies took two of three in the series. On Tuesday, Gateway scored all its runs in the fourth inning and won, 11-6.
Rich Austin broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning with his sixth home run of the year, a three-run shot to right field.
The âHawks took a 6-3 lead into the eighth inning. Gateway sent 11 to the plate in the inning and totaled six hits. Phil Warren singled in the tying and winning runs, then scored on Mike Breyman's two-run double to right field.
Rockford closer Josh Latimer blew a save for the second consecutive appearance and was tagged with the loss. Latimer (1-3) gave up four runs in an inning of work.
Ryan Hamilton (2-0) pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win.
The River City Rascals come in for 7:05 p.m. games each of the next three nights. On Thirsty Thursday, Miller Lite and Lorden Distributing sponsor $1 beers.
