Washington Wild Things News Release
The Wild Things and Freedom did their best Wimbledon impression last night, volleying the lead back and forth, but Washington scored in their final at bat to win, 4-3.
Florence (11-29) scored their first run in the third inning with J.D. Foust's single to center that scored Flip Hildebrant. Washington (26-13) countered in the fourth when L.J. Biernbaum crushed a solo home run over the right-field wall.
Justin Rahschulte gave the Freedom a 2-1 lead in the seventh when he tagged a solo-shot to right. In the bottom half of the inning, Jack Headley tied the game, scoring on Brian Stoecklein's single. However, the game did not stay tied for long.
Tom Creighton led off the top of the eighth with a homer, but the Wild Things immediately tied the game. Biernbaum led off the eighth with a walk and stole second. Bill Greenwell drove him in with a single to center.
Headley led off the ninth with a single and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and an error by the catcher. Mike Arbinger singled to the outfield knock in Headley for the winning run.
Eric Holt continued to pitch well for the Wild Things, but got a no decision after going seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits. B.J. Borsa (5-0) struck out the side in the ninth to earn the win. Kevin Rival (1-2) took the loss.
The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, continue their series with Florence tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Doug Lantz will make his third start of the year for the Wild Things.
