Otters Take Broll in Opening Round
May 2, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League announced this morning that they have selected Toronto Young Nats forward David Broll with the 10th overall pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection being held today via the Internet and conference call.
Broll, a 6-foot-1 and 220 pound left winger from Mississauga, Ontario, registered 31 goals and 26 assists for 57 points in 73 games during the 2008-09 season.
"David Broll is a big strong power forward who possess great scoring ability," said Otters General Manager and Managing Partner Sherry Bassin. "He has shown the ability to score key goals and from what we've seen there's not much he can't do. He's the kind of player you want on your team and not playing against you."
OHL Central Scouting describes Broll as a "big, physical winger who has the potential to be physically dominating at this level. He is very strong and has some games where his physical game has had quite an impact. He possesses very good hands, displays a real soft touch with the puck, which is even more impressive when you consider his physical size. He uses his size and reach to protect the puck, while also showing the ability to beat defenders one-on-one."
The Otters have 15 more picks in the selection process including two picks in each of the second (28th and 30th), third (41st and 54th) and fifth (83rd and 90th) rounds.
The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds used the first overall pick in the Priority Selection to take forward Daniel Catenacci. The Kingston Frontenacs took Toronto Jr. Canadiens forward Alan Quine with the second pick while York Simcoe Express defenseman Ryan Murphy went to the Kitchener Rangers with the third overall pick.
