May 2, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release

Head Coach and General Manager of the Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club Steve Spott has announced the team's first round pick in the 2009 Priority Selection is blueliner Ryan Murphy of the York Simcoe Express.

Last month Murphy led the Express with nine points (four goals, five assists) in five games in the OHL Cup - good enough for fifth in overall scoring. Two of his goals were game-winners. In game 17 vs. London, Ryan was named first star after netting a wrist shot at the 2:27 mark of the overtime period to give his team the win.

Murphy tallied 30 goals and 65 assists in 73 games for the Express during the regular season.

Rangers Associate Coach and Assistant General Manager Paul Fixter had this to say of Murphy, "Ryan Murphy is a dynamic, smooth skating, highly skilled offensive defenseman. He has exceptional skills and plays with a tremendous amount of confidence. Ryan will be an extremely entertaining addition to the hockey club."
