Bulls Add Local Goaltender Tyson Teichmann in First Round of OHL Priority Selection

The Belleville Bulls selected goaltender Tyson Teichmann with their first round pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. Teichmann played this season with the Quinte Red Devils Minor Midget and was the first goaltender selected in the draft. In 31 games played with the Red Devils this season, Teichmann posted a 1.64 goals against average and six shutouts while leading Quinte to an OMHA Championship. The Belleville native is described as a butterfly style goaltender who displays good quickness. Teichmann's father Brad played goal for two seasons in the OHL including a stint with Belleville during the 1990-1991 campaign.

In the second round, the Bulls selected forward Michael Curtis from the Toronto Marlboros Midget. Curtis recorded 33 goals and 49 assists in 79 games played with the Marlboros. The Mississauga, Ontario native is described as a player who shows excellent quickness and has the ability to play all three forward positions. Curtis was the Captain of the OHL Cup Champion Marlboros and was named player of the game in their championship game victory.

Belleville then selected defenceman Steven Strong with the first of their two fourth round picks. Strong played this past season with the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget where he scored 14 goals while adding 52 assists and 78 penalty minutes in 76 games played.

With their second selection in the fourth round, the Bulls took defenceman Alex Basso from the Mississauga Senators Minor Midget. In 55 games with the Senators, Basso recorded 11 goals and 31 assists while adding 82 penalty minutes.

The Bulls then took forward Scott Simmonds in the fifth round. Simmonds spent the 2008-2009 season with the Central Ontario Wolves Minor Midget where he scored 16 goals and added 20 assists in 58 games played.

In total, Belleville selected six forwards, six defenceman, and two goaltenders.

Other Bulls picks included winger Matt Moes from the St. Catharines Falcons and defenceman Cole Murduff from the Peterborough Petes in rounds seven and eight. Belleville then selected wingers Philip Doucet from Ottawa Valley and Steven Deeg from Ajax Pickering in rounds nine and ten. In round eleven, the Bulls took goaltender Malcolm Subban from the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget. Subban is the younger brother of star defender P.K. Subban.

Belleville then selected three more defencemen in their final four picks including Dillan Walker from the Brantford 99'ers in round twelve, Ryan Logan from Ajax Pickering in round fourteen, and Eric Wintjes from the Central Ontario Wolves with their final pick in round fifteen. Ottawa Valley winger Nikolas Van Essen was the final forward taken by the Bulls in round fourteen.
