Majors Select Stuart Percy in First Round
May 2, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors are pleased to announce that the hockey club has selected Stuart Percy in the 1st Round (15th overall) of the 2009 OHL Priority Selection.
The fifteen year-old player, who will be turning sixteen this month, was a member of the Toronto Marlboros, a team that won the OHL Cup Showcase Tournament this past year. The 6'1", 170 lbs. defenceman hails from Oakville, Ontario and registered 13 goals and 44 assists for 57 points in 79 games played in 2008-09.
As noted by the OHL, Percy is a solid defenceman who was a key contributor to the Marlboros championship season, and is effective at shutting down plays in his own zone, and jumpstarting offensive breakouts. He displays good mobility and range and a high level of hockey sense. He reads plays well, and can make simple yet effective choices.
A release will be provided on the Majors website at www.stmichaelsmajors.com upon the completion of the first five rounds of the draft. The Majors do not have a selection in the third round due to a previous trade. A wrap-up release will be available on the Majors website after the event is complete.
The OHL Priority Selection is being held all day today, and the first three rounds of the draft are available via live webcast at www.ontariohockeyleague.com. The webcast will be archived on the league website following the completion of the show, and should be available to view later on this evening.
Following the completion of the third round, fans can tune in to the standard live internet draft for the duration of the event at www.ontariohockeyleague.com/ps2009.
