Evansville Otters News Release

Washington, PA– The Evansville Otters scored four runs in the top of the third inning and made them stand up, as they beat the Washington Wild Things 4-3.

After the inning started with a pop-up, Sean Flynn and Frank Scott drew back-to-back walks. O. J. Garza then rocketed a single off the glove of Wild Things' starter Grant Dorn to load the bases. Denver Stuckey followed with a double down the right field line, scoring Flynn and Scott. Cole Hilt next knocked a single to score Garza and Stuckey giving the Otters a 4-0 lead.

The lead was enough for Jeremy Lewis who allowed 11 hits, but just two runs over 6.2 innings. A. J. Ampi threw and inning-and-a-third of scoreless relief and Amad Stephens came in for his 12th save. The win pulls the Otters to within 1.5 games of Washington in the East Division.

Game two of the series features a pair of East Division all-stars as Evansville sends Grant Williams to the mound. Williams is 6-0 this season with a 1.99 ERA and is third in the league with 66 strikeouts. Washington will counter with Matt Powell who is 5-0 and was one of John Masarelli's three picks to fill out the all-star roster.
