Richmond Roosters News Release
Richmond, IN - The Richmond Roosters announced the signing of former Marlin's farmhand, RHP Garrett Berger this morning. Berger, who was the second round pick of the Florida Marlins in the 2001 major league baseball draft, will travel with the team to Chillicothe to take on the Paints. He will likely fill a role in the back end of the Roosters bullpen.
Berger was the 60th overall pick in the 2001 draft but never had a chance to get his career with the Marlins started. He signed with Florida in August and was promptly assigned to an instructional league. On October 4th he blew out his arm and has been fighting to get back into baseball since.
After two surgeries and two years of rehab he had another setback while playing in the Gulf Coast League. The Marlins gave him his release in January 2004 and he was later picked up by the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers released him in June.
