Otters Sink Steelheads 5-2

Erie, PA - The Mississauga Steelheads visited the Erie Otters Tuesday night for their final game of four straight on the road. The Steelheads were coming off a 5-1 win over the Sudbury Wolves on Sunday where Damian Bourne and Thomas Lattavo each had two-goals on the night.The Otters were coming off a 6-4 loss at home to the Windsor Spitfires. The loss was only the second regulation loss of the season for the Otters.

The Otters wasted no time getting things going as the OHL's leading scorer, Alex DeBrincat put Erie on the board at 0:41 of the opening frame. Mississauga native, Dylan Strome and linemate, Taylor Raddysh picked up the assists on DeBrincat's 23rd of the season. Riding the momentum of the early goal, DeBrincat would strike again just a few minutes later to give Erie a 2-0 lead. Vanya Lodnia and Strome recorded the assists on DeBrincat's second of the night. The Steelheads would cut Erie's lead in half at 16:41 as Jason Smith's shot from the point beat Devin Williams. Nearing the end of the first, Erie would regain their 2-goal lead as DeBrincat netted his third of the game at 18:41 on the power play, to give the Otters a 3-1 lead heading into the intermission.

Although there were a number of good chances by the Steelheads, the Otters continued to control the pace of play in the second. Vanya Lodnia put in a rebound to extend the Otters' lead 4-1 at 9:21. The Steelheads scored their second goal with 5:44 on the clock on a wrist shot by Nathan Bastian. Assists on Bastian's 7th of the season went to Sean Day and Michael McLeod. Erie would get the goal right back at 17:25 as Kyle Pettit fought his way in front of the net to finish the loose puck. The Otters led 5-2 at the break.

The third period would see no goals as Devin Williams and Jack Flinn each saved all ten shots they faced. The Steelheads, now 9-9-0-2, will return home to the Hershey Centre on Friday to host the Windsor Spitfires for a 7:30 pm start.
