Windsor Spitfires News Release
Having carried four goalies on the roster since October 21st , General Manager Warren Rychel has announced the club has reduced that number to two, with the return of rookie Michael DiPietro from the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Overager Garret Hughson, who has posted three wins in as many starts since arriving via trade with the Niagara IceDogs, will remain with the club.
"We've had the luxury of having lots of good options in goal for the last three weeks," Rychel said. "All our goalies have played exceptionally well. At some point, we knew we'd have to make some decisions, and this is the path we've decided to go down. Garret has played very well and has done everything we've asked of him since the day he arrived, and we want to give the other two a chance to play somewhere."
Rychel says 18-year-old goaltender Mario Culina has been assigned to the Soo Thunderbirds of the NOJHL after clearing Ontario Hockey League waivers, while 20-year-old Michael Giugovaz has also been placed on OHL waivers.
