Spirit Acquire Forward Mike Davies from Kitchener

SAGINAW, MI - On Tuesday, Saginaw Spirit General Manager Dave Drinkill announced the acquisition of LW/RW Mike Davies from the Kitchener Rangers in exchange for Saginaw's 2nd round pick in 2018, 5th round pick in 2018, and a conditional 5th round pick in 2019.

"We have been looking around the league for a player like Mike Davies for some time so we are pleased to welcome him to the Saginaw Spirit family. Mike is a big bodied power forward that will help the team in all different aspects of the game. He has always been a pure goal scorer. Those types of players are a commodity and don't come around very often, so when you get a chance to acquire a player like this, you make the move."

Davies, 18, is in his third season in the Ontario Hockey League and is a first round selection of the Kitchener Rangers in 2013. The 6'2, 200 winger from Thorold, Ontario plays a grinding power forward game, that can free up space on the ice for the Spirit's snipers. It wasn't long ago that Davies amassed 47 goals in 61 games with the Southern Tier Admirals AAA Midget program. Drinkill is hoping Davies can regain his scoring touch with the Spirit.

"Like many young players drafted high into this league, it takes time to find their game. Sometimes a fresh start, opportunity, and new found confidence is needed and I believe this to be the case in Mike. We are excited to get him into a Spirit uniform and help us continue to add to our strong core of young talent."

"I am really excited to join the Saginaw Spirit organization." said Davies. "We have a very exciting team with a lot of good, young hockey players. Things started off a little slow for me in my career so I see this as a second chance to start fresh. I am going to take this opportunity and run with it."
