Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters professional baseball team is pleased to announce the signing of catcher/designated hitter Jeff Goldbach of Princeton, IN.
Goldbach was originally drafted in the second round of the 1998 draft by the Chicago Cubs. The Princeton High School graduate has 77 homeruns and 326 RBI in his nine-year minor league career. He will be making his first trip back to Bosse Field in over eight years.
"Being back is here is going to be strange but I am excited about playing at home in Evansville," said Goldbach. "Being able to sleep in my own bed at night is going to be nice."
Goldbach's best season as a pro came in 1999 with the Lansing Lugnuts where he crushed 18 homers with 72 RBI and hit a career-best .271 average.
Primarily a catcher in his career, Goldbach is very excited at the opportunity to help the team as a designated hitter.
"It's a big break for me. I'm only 25 but I'm caught so many innings in my career that being a DH is really attractive to me."
The former Princeton (HS) Tiger, played last for the Joliet Jackhammers of the Northern League. In 2005 with Joliet, Goldbach hit .266 with five homers, eight doubles, and 14 RBI.
The Otters will play their first day game of the season tomorrow with the special start time of 12:05PM. It is presented by Newspapers in Education with Otters team baseball card sets given to the first 1,000 fans 12 and under. It is also an Otter Pup Gang Day where all members wearing their yellow Otter Pup Gang t-shirts receive free admission.
