ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks found the keys to the batter's box.

The RiverHawks ended a month-long offensive drought with a 13-5 win over the Florence Freedom at Marinelli Field.

It was their best-hitting night since losing a 20-14 slugfest to Washington on June 19. The RiverHawks had not scored nine or more runs in a nine-inning win since June 11, when they beat Mid-Missouri, 9-7. They had scored a total of 36 runs over the 10 games preceding Sunday's win.

Leadoff man Doug Schutt doubled and homered for the RiverHawks. Ashley Farr was 3-for-5 with a RBI and had hits in each of the three middle innings, when Rockford outscored Florence, 11-0.

The RiverHawks sent nine to the plate and rallied from a three-run deficit in a five-run fourth inning. Todd Dulaney singled in the go-ahead run and Brian Baron doubled home two with two out to make it 7-4. Rockford batted around again in a four-run sixth inning.

Florence starter Mike Dennison didn't make it out of the fifth inning. Dennison (5-5) gave up nine runs, five earned, on eight hits.

Rockford starter Kevin Crowley (1-1) went five innings for the win.

The RiverHawks' last game before the Frontier League All-Star break is the rubber match of the three-game series. You Might Be A Redneck Night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Monday. Fans wearing tank tops or "Daisy Duke" shorts get half-price general-admission tickets. Cans of Milwaukee's Best are just $1.

The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
