Evansville Otters News Release
(EVANSVILLE, Ind.)- The Evansville Otters defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 9-3 yesterday, but there was also another winner at Bosse Field: the kids!
CJ's Bus Foundation worked along with the Otters in successfully auctioning off the game-worn uniforms in raising over $2600 for the charity.
"We were glad to partner with CJ's Bus again this year," said Otters owner Bill Bussing. "The evening draws attention to the organization's work and generates significant revenue from the spirited bidding on the players' jerseys."
During the game, fans participated in a silent auction behind home plate. Once the game ended, the awarding of jerseys began as the Evansville Otters took the jerseys off their backs, signed them, and passed the shirts along for a better cause.
"It was really special seeing the players and fans interacting for charity," said Evansville general manager Liam Miller. "The event went along perfectly and we couldn't be happier with the outcome."
Kathryn Martin, the founder of CJ's Bus Foundation, was also extremely pleased.
"Since both CJ's Bus and the Evansville Otters are family oriented, I can't think of a better way to enjoy a night of baseball than with family and friends at Bosse Field," said Kathryn. "This year's Jersey Night at the Otters was such a success, and it's an incredible feeling knowing that the Otters are continuing to help us put smiles on the faces of children affected by disaster."
Kathryn's life was dramtically changed when a tornado hit her family's home in Evansville in 2005, killing three family members including her two-year old son CJ. Soon thereafter, Kathryn made it a life-long mission to help children and families affected by disasters with the beginning of the charity.
CJ's Bus is a safe haven for children in disasters. The bus moves into the cities within a day or two and helps to distract the children from the disaster while also entertaining them. To read more about CJ's Bus or to donate, you can visit http://www.cjsbus.org/ .
