
Legend's Game Coming to the Corn Crib

NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, will beginning selling tickets for the "State Farm Legends Reception," and "State Farm Legends Game," on Saturday, June 26 at 10 a.m. Tickets start at only $7 each. Yet, through Friday, June 25 at 5 p.m., CornBelters package ticket holders have the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets for either event in advance!
The reception will be held at the new Marriott in uptown Normal on August 13 at 6 p.m. There will be a cocktail hour prior to dinner at 7 p.m. Following dinner, each of the participants in the game will speak. The game will take place at the Corn Crib on August 14 at 7 p.m., and the gates will open at 6 p.m. Some of the players scheduled to appear are Bob Dernier, Keith Moreland, Turk Wendell, Micky Morandini, Rick Reuschel, Lee Smith, John Tudor, Andy Van Slyke and Cal Eldred.
Dernier, who played for the Chicago Cubs from 1984 to 1987, was a Gold Glove outfielder in 1984. Moreland played for the Cubs from 1982 to 1987 and was a career .279 hitter in 12 seasons. Wendell pitched for the Cubs from 1993 to 1996 and has a career 3.93 ERA. Morandini, who played for the Chicago Cubs from 1998 to 1999, was a National League All-Star with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1995. Reuschel, a three-time NL All-Star, and two-time Gold Glove winner, was drafted by the Cubs in the third round of the 1970 amateur draft and played 12 of his 19 seasons on the north side.
Although Smith was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 1975 amateur draft, he played four of his 18 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals. The three-time Rolaids Relief Award winner, and seven-time All-Star, is still third all-time in saves with 478. Tudor, who played five of his 12 season with the Cardinals, finished second in the NL Cy Young voting behind Dwight Gooden in 1985. That season, he amassed a 21-8 record with a 1.36 ERA, 14 complete games and 10 shutouts in 36 appearances. Van Slyke was drafted by the Cardinals in the first round (sixth pick) of the 1979 amateur draft. In 13 seasons (four with the Cardinals), he was a five-time Gold Glove winner, three-time NL All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner. Eldred played for the Cardinals from 2003 to 2005. In 14 seasons, he amassed 1,368 innings pitched and 939 strikeouts with three teams.
THE NIBLET: The CornBelters will play their next home game at the Corn Crib on Saturday, June 26 at 7 p.m. versus the Gateway Grizzlies. It is "Saturday Night Live," and Letterman alum Anna Jack will dazzle the crowd with her pulsating, action-packed hula hoop show! It is also the first-ever Girl Scout campout. After the game, area scouts will spend the night on the outfield!
