Jason Bowlin held the Otters down through seven innings as the Florence Freedom made a second inning run hold up in defeating the Evansville Otters 1-0.
The Freedom scored a run on an infield single by Brandon Cornell in the second inning. The shot to third was knocked down by Denver Stuckey on a diving stop, but he was unable to make a play as Trevor Hall scored the lone run of the contest.
After that the pitchers took over as both starters were fantastic. Andre Simpson (1-1) went six allowing five hits, walking two and striking out eight. Jason Bowlin (1-0) was up to every pitch that Simpson threw and more, as he went seven, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out eight. Justin Fuller pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Lenny Bays cam in the ninth to pick up his third save.
The Otters now return home for a six game homestand. The set begins with a series against the Washington Wild Things, Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Chris Pillsbury (0-1) gets the start for Evansville against Brendon Davis (0-1) for the Wild Things.
