Rascals avoid sweep

The River City Rascals got seven strong innings from starter John Troop. Troop picked up the win allowing just one run, as the Rascals defeated the Grizzlies 6-1 Friday night in front of 3,962 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

The Rascals got three runs in the first and never trailed. Mike Madrid had five RBIs for the Rascals, including a solo home run.

Bryan Bernat, making his first professional start, suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Bernat went 4-plus innings allowing all six runs on six hits. He walked four and struck out one. David Smith and Chris Little provided four scoreless innings in relief.

Ryan Sullivan had the lone RBI for the night. He drove in Phil Warren in the fourth. He was 1-2. Freddy Lopez was 2-4 in the loss.

The Grizzlies return home for one game with the Mid-Missouri Mavericks 7:05 Saturday night at GMC Stadium. It will be the first of a three game series with Mid-Missouri; the final two games will take place in Columbia, MO.
