Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE - IN) - The Evansville Otters started a week-long homestand by welcoming the London Rippers to Bosse Field, but the expansion team from Ontario staged a few late rallies for a 3-1 victory on Thursday night.

Both teams had early opportunities to score as Evansville left the bases loaded in the first and London stranded a pair of runners in each of the fourth and fifth innings. The Rippers eventually took the 1-0 lead in the seventh on an RBI single by Aaron Glaum. London then added another pair of runs in the eighth inning on two seperate RBI doubles.

Down 3-0, first baseman Nick Schwaner then responded in the bottom of the eighth, with a solo home run to right-center field. It was the team-high fifth home run of the year for Schwaner.

After putting the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth, former Evansville Otter David Francis induced shortstop Luis Parache to fly out and preserve the 3-1 London win.

Starter Jamie Richmond (3-1) threw eight innings of six hit, one run ball for London in the win. Lefty Matt Zielinski (2-2) takes the loss for Evansville, allowing three runs on a total of six hits. The Pennsylvania native also struck out a season-high eight Rippers in the game. David Francis notched his third save of the year for London.

The Otters and Rippers return to Historic Bosse Field tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. It is Swat Pest night at the ballpark and there will also be a fireworks show sponsored by Hoosier Lottery. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the box office at 812-435-8686.
