CornBelters lose a heartbreaker

The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, lost a heartbreaker in ten innings to the Gateway Grizzlies, falling 4-3 Thursday night at the Corn Crib.
The game opened with dominating performances by starters Jacob Liedka and Pat Arnold, as the two sides combined for just one hit through three and half innings of play.
First baseman Jordan Stouffer put an end to the offensive blues when he blasted his second home run of the season over the wall in left, bringing home shortstop Patrick McKenna, and putting Normal in front 2-0.
Back to back singles by centerfielder Tyler Weisemeyer and McKenna again set the table for Stouffer in the 6th. The 'Belter first baseman did not disappoint as he delivered a single of his own, bringing home Weisemeyer and extended the Normal lead to 3-0.
Gateway fought back in the top of the 7th against the 'Belter bullpen, tying the game with three runs of their own in the inning. The score would remain knotted up at threes until the 10th, when the Grizzlies were able to push across their fourth and final tally.
The series continues Friday with Normal's Tyler Stovall (1-3, 6.50 ERA) facing off against Gateway's Chris Enourato (0-2, 5.73 ERA). Starttime is 6:30. Pregame on WJBC.com at 6:20.
