
Miners Win in Extras at Windy City

Crestwood, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners scored three runs in the top of the tenth inning to defeat the Windy City ThunderBolts 8-5. Miners reliever Anthony Collazo earned his second win of the season while Max Peterson earned his ninth save. Miners starter Cody Hall made his professional debut and threw six innings, gave up one hit, one earned run, walked two and struck out three batters.
The Miners scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. Sean Harrell grounded out to bring in Matt Fields from first base and Phil Butler had a RBI single. The ThunderBolts scored a run in the bottom of the third when catcher Brandon Pearl hit a base hit off Cody Hall to bring the ThunderBolts within one run. That was the only run Hall gave up in the contest.
The Miners scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning off ThunderBolts starter Blayne Weller and reliever Michael Click. Chad Maddox hit a base hit with the bases loaded to score three runs to give the Miners a 5-1 lead. The ThunderBolts scored a run off Miners reliever Gabriel Shaw as ThunderBolts left fielder hit a solo homerun to make it 5-2. Windy City then tied it at five with three runs in the bottom of the eighth off reliever Ben Shivers. The game then headed to extra innings.
The Miners scored quickly in extra innings as they scored three runs in the top of the tenth inning. Chad Maddox scored off a past ball by catcher Brandon Pearl. Ken Gregory hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Matt Fields and Elliot Hagburg hit a base hit to give the Miners a 8-5 lead. Max Peterson closed out the game in the bottom of the tenth by striking out two batters to record his ninth save of the season.
With the win the Miners improved to 16-9 on the season. Windy City falls to 13-10 with the loss. The Miners will send LHP Brian Fowler to the mound as he will be opposed by RHP Donovan Drake. The Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show on the Miners Radio Network will begin at 6:45 with Mike Ventola. First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
