Evansville Otters News Release
(NORMAL, ILLINOIS) - The Evansville Otters (0-1) look for their first win of the 2014 Frontier League season with the middle game of the series at the Normal CornBelters (1-0). First pitch is set for 7:00 pm CT today at the Corn Crib in Normal, Illinois.
Evansville lost their season opener 5-0 to the CornBelters on Friday night. 1B Nik Balog reached base three times yesterday. Balog and fellow infielder Shayne Houck each recorded a double in the defeat. Starting pitcher Zach Petersime threw 5.0 innings, yielding two runs on four hits in game one.
The Otters are the longest running franchise in the Frontier League and have more wins (793) than any other team in league history. Evansville plays their home games at historic Bosse Field, which was built in 1915 and is the third oldest baseball stadium in America. Bosse Field is now in its 99th year of existence.
Evansville will have left-hander Chad James(0-0, 0.00 ERA) making his Frontier League and Otters debut against Normal righty Michael Schweiss (0-0, 0.00 ERA). James was a first round pick (18th overall) of the Florida Marlins in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft. He has played four seasons in the Marlins organization before joining the Otters this season.
Dating back to last season, Otters outfielder John Schultz has hit in three consecutive games safely.
The Normal CornBelters are 21-16 all time against the Evansville Otters. Normal won five of the six meetings last season against Evansville. Both home teams swept the series at their own ballpark back in the 2012 season. Evansville's last win at the Corn Crib came on July 23, 2011 when the Otters swept Normal and completed an undefeated six game roadtrip (also swept Florence to start).
Fans can tune in to the Otters pregame show on WUEV 91.5 FM for tonight's broadcast. Play by play announcer Mike Radomski will have the call as the pre-game show begins at 6:45 pm CDT.
