Rascals Win Game One of 2014 Season!

May 17, 2014 - Frontier League (FL)
River City Rascals News Release

Rascals won their Opening Day contest against the Rockford Aviators in a thrilling pitching duel that ended in a score 2-0. The Rascals starter Dane Stone pitched beautifully over four innings allowing only one hit while striking out four and walking one. Ray Hanson, who came in to relieve Stone, was just as flawless pitching two innings while striking out three and earning the win for River City. Manager Steve Brook used his managerial experience to guide the Rascals bullpen through a scoreless seventh inning utilizing Jagodzinski, Crider, and Kennedy. After an Aviator error allowed Kometani to score, putting the Rascals up by one, third-baseman Taylor Ard came up big in the top of inning number eight with a two-out RBI single to double the Rascals' lead. Those two runs proved more than enough for Steve Brook's pitching staff as closer Gabriel Shaw came in to lock down the save in a one-two-three ninth-inning. The loss went to the Rockford left-handed starter Nick Cicio who pitched six and two-thirds innings allowing one unearned run and striking out four. After a great victory to start the season the Rascals come back tomorrow night for game number two in Rockford. The Aviators will throw right-hander Kyle Brueggemann who pitched predominantly out of the pen for Rockford in 2013. Brook and the Rascals will counter with their own right-hander Ethan Carter who will make his professional, regular season, debut. Tune in to the broadcast online at TalkSTL.com (click on the "Listen Live" tab above the Rascals logo) starting at 6:35 CT. Go Rascals!
