Washington Wild Things News Release

Florence, KY - Another 6-5 walk-off win gave the Florence Freedom (3-0) their third victory in as many days as they defeated the Washington Wild Things (0-3), presented by Washington Financial, in a wild 10-inning marathon Saturday at UC Health Stadium.

The matchup remained scoreless until the top of the third inning when CJ Beatty, an outfielder from Winston Salem, NC, hit his first home run of the season creating a two-run lead. Florence answered quickly matching Washington's two runs, leaving the teams tied heading into the fourth.

Two innings later, Washington regained the lead in the back-and-forth affair when outfielder Stewart Ijames drilled an opposite field go-ahead RBI single giving the visitors a 3-2 advantage.

Florence came back with heat in the sixth, evening the score once again with a home run from Freedom catcher Joe Staley and then became the frontrunner when Nick Stein delivered an RBI single to put Florence in front 4-3.

Washington knotted the score at four during the seventh inning and continued to keep Florence at a standstill through the ninth forcing the game to extras.

In the top of the tenth, Washington took the lead with a RBI triple from Ryan Kresky. However, Florence finished on top winning the game with a walk off RBI single leaving a final score of 6-5.

The game concluded as the first game of the Frontier League season to end in extra innings.
