Evansville Otters News Release

June 17, 2009, Evansville, Ind. - The Evansville Otters lost a rain shortened game Wednesday afternoon 9-6 in 8 innings to the Rockford Riverhawks. A freak thunderstorm moved into the area in the bottom of the 8th inning, drenching the field with a steady downpour for fifteen minutes. When the tarp was removed, the umpires deemed the damage to the field to great to continue, and ended the game early.

The Otters led at one point 6-2 after a five run 4th inning. Kevin Mackey singled and Donald Brown walked to being the inning. Felix Adamkiewicz followed with an RBI single, scoring Mackey from second. A few batters later, Dustin Koca singled and Greg Alexander walked, loading the bases. Rockford starting pitcher Jay Monti was lifted and replaced by lefty reliever Fabian Gomez. Gomez's first delivery to Matt Pulley was a wild pitch that allowed Adamkiewicz to score from third. Pulley singled later in the bat, scoring Koca and Alexander. Rockford started pecking away at the four run deficit in the sixth inning, scoring twice on a Todd Martin sacrifice fly and a Robert Sabates RBI groundout.

The Riverhawks took the lead for good in the 7th inning. After Ross McCoy singled in a run to cut the margin in half, Todd Martin hit a three run home run over the right field fence for an 8-6 lead. Otters reliever Nick Utley (1-2) took the loss, his second loss in his last two appearances. Riverhawks' reliever Fabian Gomez (1-1) earned the victory.

The Otters (7-17) welcome in the River City Rascals Thursday for the first game of a three game series at Bosse Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm CDT.
