Freedom Split Double-Header

FLORENCE, KY - After rain suspended Tuesday's game between the Florence Freedom and the Washington Wild Things, the two teams split a double header Wednesday night at Champion Window Field.

The Wild Things hit the long ball in game one, taking it 10-4. Grant Psomas, David Anderson, Chris Demons and Matt Sutton all went yard for Washington as the game resumed in the top of the fourth inning. Washington lead 4-3 when play resumed Wednesday night.

Moises Melendez took the loss for the Freedom, dropping to 3-3 after allowing five runs, four earned in 3.1 innings.

Florence was the one bombing away in the night cap. The Freedom were carried by five homeruns, two each by Johnny Welch and Billy Mottram. Justin Pickett hit a two run blast in the sixth for good measure.

Welch's first came with the bases loaded in the first inning as the Freedom grabbed an early 5-2 lead.

Mottram's first came in the fourth inning with a man aboard to make it 9-5 Freedom. Welch hit his second later in the fourth which made it 11-5 Florence. The third baseman finished with six RBI.

The Freedom ran away with it late as Mottram and Pickett hit homeruns in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 16-6 Florence.

Charles Williams got the win for the Freedom tossing 1.2 innings of relief to improve to 2-1. Washington starter Zach Pitts failed to make it through the first inning as he dropped to 0-2.

Mottram finished the three game series against the Wild Things with four homeruns and six RBI.

The Freedom (15-9) will pay a visit to the Kalamazoo Kings as they begin a six game road trip. The Kings enter the three game series Thursday night one game up on the Freedom for first place in the Frontier League East.
