Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters had six players voted onto the Frontier League's East Division All-Star team, it was announced Tuesday afternoon. The six players are the most an Evansville team has had voted onto the initial roster.

The six Otters voted to the all-star team are the most in the Eastern Division and are tied with Kalamazoo for the most selections overall.

Rickey Clinton was named the East Division's starting catcher. He represents the only starter voted onto the team for the Otters. Clinton enters play on Tuesday seventh in the league in hitting at .372. Clinton's starting nod marks the fourth year in a row the Otters have had a catcher be voted onto the all-star team (John Edwards, 2002; Jason Radwan, 2003; Sean Flynn, 2004) and the third time in those four seasons (Edwards, Radwan) that an Otters catcher will start the game.

The Otters also had two reserves voted onto Florence Manager, Jamie Keefe's squad. Denver Stuckey and Steve Martin were slotted into the East Division mix. Martin is hitting .326, which coming into play on Monday was the 16th best mark in the league. He has already tied his season homerun total from last year with seven to go along with 19 RBI. His 12 stolen bases rank him fifth in the FL

Stuckey is hitting at .283 and entering play on Monday, was the league's best defensive third baseman with a .969 fielding percentage committing just three errors in 97 chances. Stuckey is one of two Otters who have been in every ballgame this season.

Evansville also had three pitchers voted to the East Division team from a staff that is first in the league in ERA by over a run. Ben Foster is fifth in the league in ERA with a 2.11 mark. His 4-2 record ties him for the most wins on the Otters. Andre Simpson makes his first all-star appearance in the Frontier League. Simpson was voted in on the strength of his 2.58 ERA, which is seventh best in the league. Simpson's 54 strikeouts are second best in the FL.

The Otters also placed a reliever on the team as Fort Branch native and Gibson Southern High School alum Nathan Stone was named an all-star. Stone has been dominant for Evansville this season with a 1-0 record and a 0.84 ERA. In 21.1 innings, Stone has allowed just 11 hits and two earned runs, walking five and striking out 22.

The manager of the team, Florence Freedom skipper, Jamie Keefe will be given three manager selections to round out the 24 man team. The game is scheduled for July 13th at 6:05 p.m. CST from Falconi Field in Washington, PA.
